Chi Chung (奇種) means strange or mysterious cultivar. Chi Chung is like its name says a mystery. This is a wild tea that grows at hard to reach very precarious places that the tea pickers risk their lives to reach. Only very limited amount is produced every year.
As Yancha lovers can tell you, most can recognize the specific cultivar as they drink the tea except for Chi Chung. A sip of Chi Chung is very mesmerizing, like walking in a misty forest, it is strong and powerful with a hint of wilderness that is little astringent but just as quickly as the astringency goes away, it becomes very juicy. Since it is a strange cultivar, no one truly knows what it is and the tea will sometimes seem familiar and yet not exactly. A session of Chi Chung is very enjoyable and will leave you looking forward to the next.
