Lao Cha Tou (老茶頭) are tea nuggets created naturally during wodui process of making Shou PuErh. Combination of pressure and high temperature makes leaves to stick together and create those precious nuggets on the bottom of the pile. Those were created during premium YiWu Shou production, material used comes from peak of XiXuanBaNa, picked from old trees growing at elevation above 2000m (You can see few of them on the last picture). After tea was made it was stored in Taiwanese natural storage.
Good Lao Cha Tou is known for its smooth and sweet liquor and they can be brewed many, many times. This one is no exception and it’s extremely thick, smooth and creamy with woody and earthy notes and a lot of sweetness. Lao Cha Tou are usually not as rich as “standard” Shou, but this one probably makes thickest liquor we ever had on Shou PuErh, and it’s liquor have beautiful dark burgundy color is almost black with golden rim on the edges of your cup. Great to drink now but will also age very well.
